About him
I have many books. My constant companions over the years. A reflection of me. They stimulate, provoke, comfort, and challenge.
They mirror my many enthusiasms, my varied moods, and,
my love of beauty, good design, and an insatiable curiosity
which propels me forward, sometimes in directions seemingly at odds with one another.
Yet, in the end, I have arrived at a place and a time which feels right, but for one glaring absence. There is no one here to turn to, to share, smile and touch. To feel together. To understand.
If you are after straight lines, clear patterns, certain outcomes, conventions, and neatly packaged solutions,
then keep well away.
But if you want the challenge of adversity , the sharing of discovery, and the stimulus of a shared vision, let me know.
I have an aversion to baseball caps, cats, botox, false eyelashes, most perfumes, misuse of the English language, commercialism, identikit pubs, fake tans, bling, fashion breed dogs, footballer worship, game shows, comedians who feel the only way to make people laugh is by being foul mouthed or crude, Nigel Farage and Megan Markle.
I love bees and butterflies, trees and native hedgerows, brooks, streams, rivers, and canals,
good manners and kindness, black and white film photography, Laurel and Hardy, Morecambe and Wise, silliness, the innocence of the young, the wisdom of the elderly, swallows and blackbirds, wildflowers and honey, feminine beauty, grace, gentility, curves, and sensuality.
The lilt and cadence of the poetic, a great author’s insight into the human condition, the shock of freshly squeezed lime juice, the rich spiciness of a home cooked curry, a woman’s touch, an engaging radio drama, mid-20th century architecture, Scandinavian design, Marmite cheese on toast, the cheerfulness and beauty of South Indian women, the promise of a new life, the reassurance of a thick sweater, the glory of an orchard in blossom.
